2 arrested after allegedly assaulting Cape Cod woman
The woman "had been badly assaulted " and sustained head and facial injuries, police said.
Two people were arrested for the assault of a 45-year-old West Yarmouth woman, who was found injured outside the public bathrooms behind the John F. Kennedy Hyannis Museum late Monday night, police said Thursday.
Rochelle Wood, 27, of Hyannis, and 32-year-old East Falmouth resident Terry Burdick are facing assault and battery charges after authorities identified them as two of potentially three suspects wanted in the attack, Barnstable police said in a statement posted on Facebook.
Officers were called to the rear of the museum on Main Street in Hyannis at 11:54 p.m. Monday for a report of a woman near the restrooms who “had been badly assaulted and was injured,” officials said.
She had head and facial injuries and was brought to Cape Cod Hospital, according to authorities. The woman was later transferred to Massachusetts Eye and Ear hospital in Boston, where she was listed in stable condition as of Wednesday morning, police said.
Investigators identified Wood and Burdick as two alleged assailants who fled the scene after speaking with witnesses, the statement said.
“Arrest warrants were obtained for Burdick and Wood who were later located in the Hyannis area and taken into custody,” police said.
Wood was charged with mayhem, assault and battery resulting in serious bodily injury, and assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon. Burdick faces charges of mayhem and assault and battery resulting in serous bodily injury, according to officials.
Both Wood and Burdick were scheduled to be arraigned in Barnstable District Court.
