Roommates’ argument over burnt food escalates to stabbing, police say
Both roommates are now facing charges.
A pair of roommates in Lawrence reportedly fought over burnt food, and they each picked up criminal charges on Tuesday as a result.A couple of Lawrence police officers were investigating an accident early that afternoon when someone drew their attention to a man with blood on his hands walking down the street, police said. The man, later identified as Mike Delia, 34, told police his roommate had stabbed him. While the officers gave him medical attention, they found he was carrying a loaded firearm, according to police.Emergency responders then arrived and took him to Lawrence General Hospital.While officers were tending to Delia, another man, later identified as Eddy Feliz-Cabreja, 21, went to the Lawrence police station and told police his roommate had assaulted him and threatened him with a firearm, police said.Police investigated and found out that a physical altercation had broken out between them over burnt food — the two shared an apartment on Center Street, they said.Feliz-Cabreja told police Delia “punched” him, “grabbed” him around his throat, and threatened him with the firearm. He said he stabbed Delia in self-defense.Feliz-Cabreja was arraigned on an assault and battery with a dangerous weapon charge in Lawrence District Court on Thursday.Delia, meanwhile, was arraigned in Lawrence General Hospital on unlicensed possession of a firearm and related charges.
