Police: Quincy officer witnesses shots fired in bar parking lot
Curtis Gordon, 32, of Weymouth, was placed under arrest following the incident, which took place outside of Kelly's Cellar.
An altercation between two men outside of Kelly’s Cellar bar in Quincy quickly escalated early Saturday morning when one of the individuals involved fired a stolen gun at the other, police said. The incident took place in the area of 50 Revere Road — the bar’s parking lot — around 12:30 a.m., according to a statement from the Quincy Police Department. Officers eventually placed the alleged shooter — Curtis Gordon, 32, of Weymouth — under arrest, and recovered the weapon. After an officer monitoring the area allegedly witnessed Gordon fire the gun, the Weymouth man ignored several commands from the officer to drop the weapon and show his hands, according to police. He reportedly had his back to the officer, “then looked at Officer Smith and ducked down behind a parked car. He then turned around with his hands empty and stated ‘I work here, I work here!’” The officer then ordered him to the ground, police said.Another officer located the stolen firearm — a loaded Glock 27 .40 caliber pistol — on top of one of the car’s tires, the department said. The other man involved in the altercation fled the scene, according to police. It is unknown if he sustained any injuries as a result of the shooting. Gordon was charged with possession of a firearm without a FID card, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, assault by means of a dangerous weapon, possession of ammunition without an FID card, disordely conduct, and receiving stolen property, police said. He was scheduled to be arraigned in Quincy District Court on Monday.Police said Kelly’s Cellar closed its doors Sunday, not because of the incident, “but due to the fact that the building is being demolished.”
