$90,000 worth of diapers stolen from truck headed to Amazon facility
Authorities say $90,000 worth of diapers disappeared from a privately owned truck en route from Pennsylvania to a an Amazon distribution facility in Fall River, Massachusetts, last week.
Rhode Island State Police said 59-year-old Aubrey Bettis, also known as Mitchell Bettis, of Providence, was hired by the owner of a delivery truck to drive the diapers to the Amazon facility from Pennsylvania on Feb. 9. Four days later, he allegedly called the owner to say he wasn’t making the delivery and told him the truck could be picked up in the parking lot of a Super Eight Motel in West Greenwich, Rhode Island.
But when the owner flew to Rhode Island, he found the truck empty and notified authorities, who arrested Bettis.
Police said Thursday they’ve recovered about 800 boxes of the stolen diapers from an empty storefront in Providence. Two men have been arrested in connection to the theft. Police are still searching for a third suspect and the remaining 1,200 boxes.

Police said Bettis, who allegedly sold the diapers, has been charged with larceny over $1,500 and conspiracy. Police also arrested Damon Martin, 41, of Providence, and charged him with larceny over $1,500, receiving stolen goods, and conspiracy.
Attorney information for Bettis and Martin was not immediately available.
