Man sentenced after prostituting and assaulting woman in Brookline

A Boston man was sentenced Monday after prostituting and assaulting a woman in Brookline, the Norfolk District Attorney’s office said in a Facebook post Tuesday.Robert Lewis, 52, was sentenced to two years in prison followed by one year of probation after pleading guilty to deriving support from prostitution and assault and battery. On July 3, Brookline police responded to a 911 call that was placed from an apartment on Park Street and then disconnected. On arrival, a woman told officers she had placed the call during an argument with her “boyfriend” but that he had left, according to authorities. She did not accuse him of any crimes at the time.Authorities said they recognized the woman in early August in pictures posted in an advertisement on the “Backpage” website, which law enforcement knows to be used to advertise prostitution services. On August 4, officers hidden on Park Street saw the woman outside the building and then enter it. They approached two men who were seen exiting the building and gathered evidence of prostitution at that location, according to authorities.Authorities said they took the woman into custody and interviewed her. Officers discovered that Lewis, who the woman considered to be her “boyfriend,” had paid for and published the “Backpage” advertisement. He also gave the woman the cellphone to answer when men called and took away the money that men paid in exchange for sexual acts, according to authorities. The woman also told officers that Lewis had punched her in the face when she placed the 911 call on July 3, authorities said.
