Police: Lawrence man strikes officer with car while fleeing scene in Boston

A 30-year-old man from Lawrence was arrested Friday after allegedly striking a Boston police officer with his car while attempting to evade police.

The man, who was not identified in a Friday statement, first interacted with Boston police after officers were called for a “domestic disturbance” on Julian Street in Dorchester, according to the statement. The man, who was the suspect in the disturbance, was in the front seat of his parked car, and the woman was standing next to the car, police said.

When police approached the car, the man suddenly accelerated, hitting one of the officers who was in front of the car, police said. The officer rolled off the hood and was later treated and released from an area hospital, according to police.

The man then struck a parked car and quickly fled the scene, police said. The officers called for backup, and responding units canvassed the area, knowing the suspect would likely use the highway to get away.

Police found him on Interstate 93 near Exit 16 in the area Andrew Square in Boston, where he had lost control of his car and crashed. He attempted to flee the scene on foot but was taken into custody after a brief pursuit, police said.

The man was wanted on several warrants, police later found out, and the license plates on his car had been reported stolen, according to the statement.
