Dracut attorney pleads guilty filing false tax returns in 2009 and 2010

A Dracut attorney pleaded guilty Tuesday to false tax return charges, the U.S. Attorney’s office said in a statement Wednesday.John F. Paczkowski, 73, pleaded guilty to two counts of filing false federal personal tax returns for 2009 and 2010.Paczkowski embezzled and misappropriated the trust account’s funds and used his clients’ money for his own purposes, authorities said. He also failed to report over $630,000 he took from his clients to the Internal Revenue Service and did not pay more than $192,000 in federal taxes, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office.As a sole practitioner running a legal office in Dracut, the defendant was required to hold clients’ funds in a trust distinct from his own funds by the Massachusetts Board of Bar Overseers and the Rules of Professional Conduct, according to authorities.Paczkowski is expected back in court for sentencing on February 16, 2017.
