Reading police investigating series of residential break-ins

Reading police are investigating a series of daytime residential break-ins after three incidents occurred in the last 12 days, including one Tuesday afternoon.Between 2 and 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, police received a report that a home on Prospect Street was broken into, police said in a statement Wednesday.A man entered the home through an unlocked door and stole a large amount of jewelry, according to police. The suspect was described as a white or tan-skinned man, believed to be in his 30s or 40s, wearing black jeans and a black fleece or jacket, and carrying a clipboard or a small, dark-colored satchel, authorities said. The suspect’s description matches the description of a person of interest in a break-in that occurred on October 28 at a residence on School Street, according to police. A third house was broken into on Lowell Street on November 2. Jewelry was stolen from the homes in both instances.“Please be vigilant, and if you see something, say something,” Police Chief Mark D. Segalla said. “We remind residents to always keep your homes, cars and personal belongings secured to prevent theft.”Anyone with information regarding the incidents or the identity of the suspect is asked to call police at 781-944-1212.
