2 inmates walk away from minimum security facility in Lawrence

Two inmates walked away from a minimum security facility in Lawrence Wednesday, the Essex County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement. The department is now seeking to locate and apprehend them.As of 2 p.m., Manuel Perez, 22, and Levi Montalvo, 23, both of Puerto Rico, were reported missing after walking away from the Lawrence Correctional Alternative Center.Perez is a pretrial inmate facing motor vehicle theft charges, and Montalvo is a pretrial inmate facing charges in connection with the violation of an abuse prevention order, according to the sheriff’s department.The facility, located at 165 Marston St., works to turn offenders with addictions into “productive members of society,” the sheriff’s department said.Perez and Montalvo are not classified as violent offenders, but the public should not approach them as they may be dangerous, according to authorities.
