Chelsea man found guilty in 1997 sexual assault of child
A Chelsea man has been found guilty of sexually assaulting a child in 1997, nearly 19 years after fleeing prosecution, the Suffolk District Attorney’s office said in a statement Tuesday.Miguel Rodriguez, aka Miguel Antonio Rodriguez Montecinos, 54, was found guilty of one count of rape of a child and two counts of indecent assault and battery of a child under 14.The 12-year-old victim knew Rodriguez as a family friend, according to the DA’s office. The defendant took advantage of his position of trust to assault the victim in December 1997 during a sleepover at the home of another family acquaintance in Chelsea, authorities said.In January 1998, Rodriguez was indicted after an investigation. Later that year, he fled in an attempt to avoid prosecution, the DA’s office said.Rodriguez was apprehended in October 2015 after being pulled over by state police, according to authorities. He allegedly gave police an ID with the name Antonio Montecinos but fingerprinting revealed he was, in fact, Rodriguez.Rodriguez was expected to be sentenced Tuesday.
