Three individuals were arrested and a firearm recovered after an armed robbery occurred Wednesday evening in Mattapan, Boston police said in a statement Thursday.

Around 6:45 p.m. Wednesday, officers responded to the area of 885 Cummings Highway for a report of an armed robbery.

Three suspects, later identified as 18-year-old Diamodez Pierre, of Hyde Park, a 17-year-old juvenile male from Dedham, and a 17-year-old juvenile male from Mattapan, allegedly approached a man and robbed him at gunpoint before fleeing the area on foot, according to police.

Police said they found the suspects in the area of 566 River St. a short while later and, as they approached, the Mattapan teen ran away. Officers caught up to him after a brief chase and a violent struggle ensued.

The juvenile repeatedly tried to reach inside his jacket pocket during the struggle, according to police. One of the officers could feel a firearm inside the jacket and restrained the teen’s hands to stop him from grabbing the gun, authorities said.

Police said they placed the juvenile in custody and recovered a 7.55 caliber Pietro Beretta handgun from inside his jacket. Officers also recovered property belonging to the victim. The other two suspects were arrested without incident.
