Man arrested in shooting of 13-year-old in Chelsea
A man was arrested in connection with Wednesday’s shooting of a 13-year-old boy in Chelsea, police said in a statement.Christian Garcia, 19, of Everett, was arrested Thursday afternoon by state police on Interstate 93 in Andover after a warrant was issued for his arrest.Police said they had been tracking a vehicle they believed Garcia was driving or was a passenger in. State police stopped the vehicle and placed Garcia into custody without incident, according to the statement.The 13-year-old boy was hit by a stray bullet while lying in bed inside a third-floor Bellingham Street apartment, police said. He suffered a gunshot wound to the shoulder and was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital, where he is currently recovering and “in good condition,” according to police.Garcia will be returned to Chelsea and booked on assault with a dangerous weapon and firearm charges. Police said he will be arraigned Friday in Chelsea District Court.
