2 New Hampshire men charged in Salem news box explosion
Two New Hampshire men were charged in connection with the August 23 explosion of a newspaper box in Salem, Massachusetts, police said in a Facebook post Wednesday.John Richard, 23, of Hollis, and 20-year-old Lawrence Gilman, of Milford, were charged with malicious or wanton defacing or damaging property over $250, and throwing, secreting, launching, or placing of an incendiary device as a result of the investigation, according to police.Around 1:19 a.m. on August 23, a group of seven individuals put an explosive inside a Rainbow Times news box in Salem Square, police said. A surveillance video showed the group walk up to the news box, with two individuals getting closer.

The suspects then started running away before smoke seeped from the box, which then exploded in flashes of light. The resulting explosion was heard up to a mile away, according to police.
Richard and Gilman are scheduled to be arraigned in Salem District Court at 9 a.m. on Friday.
