Police are seeking the public’s help in identifying a “person of interest” in a shooting that took place Saturday in Roxbury and left a 2-year-old injured.
Around 3:58 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to the area of 10 Winslow St. for a report of shots fired. Officers found ballistic evidence and a car that seemed to have been hit by gunfire, Boston police said in a statement Monday.
Police later learned the 2-year-old child was injured during the incident and was taken to a local hospital for treatment of a nonlife-threatening gunshot wound.
The toddler was in the back seat of her father’s car when she was shot. The father, who was not injured and has gang ties, was the intended target of the shooting, according to police.
Mayor Marty Walsh and Governor Charlie Baker urged the father of the toddler to talk to police investigating the case. Walsh has called the man a “coward” for not cooperating.

The man was last seen traveling down Winslow Street toward Dudley Street.
Police said a black man wearing a black helmet and riding a black scooter was seen fleeing the area after the shooting. He appears to have a beard and is pictured wearing a red sweatshirt and dark sweatpants.
The man was last seen driving down Winslow Street toward Dudley Street and the Dudley Triangle, according to police. His connection to the incident remains unclear but anyone with information regarding the shooting or the person of interest’s identity is asked to call police at 617-343-6689.
