Man arrested on drunk driving and firearm charges in Worcester

The firearm recovered from Darkoma’s vehicle Thursday in Worcester.
A man was arrested Thursday on drunk driving and firearm-related charges after running a stop sign in Worcester, state police said in a statement.
Around 12:30 a.m., a trooper on patrol in the area of Harding Street saw a blue Mitsubishi Outlander fail to stop at a stop sign.
After further investigation, the operator of the SUV, 32-year-old Gus Darkoma, of Worcester, was arrested for operating under the influence of liquor, according to police. During an inspection of the vehicle, police said they recovered a loaded Smith and Wesson 9mm firearm and an open bottle of wine.
Darkoma initially gave a false name to troopers, according to police. After confirming his identity, police notified U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, who placed a detainer on the suspect.
Darkoma was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, defaced firearm serial number, operating under the influence of liquor, open container of alcohol, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, false name, failure to stop at a stop sign, and failure to wear a seat belt.
His bail was set at $50,000 pending his arraignment in Worcester District Court.
