Maine police: Kidnapped woman called 911 during car chase
Police in Rockland, Maine, say a woman who was kidnapped Wednesday night called 911 for help after regaining consciousness in her abductor’s vehicle.
The woman was walking home from work when a man wearing a ski mask jumped out a vehicle and attacked her, choking her unconscious, according to Rockland police. The man, later identified by police as 29-year-old Shane Hall of Portland, was not known to the woman.

Later around 11:30 p.m., police said an officer on patrol observed the vehicle Hall was driving operating in an erratic manner and attempted to stop the car.
Hall refused to stop and a “short chase” followed that ended when he lost control and crashed, police said. He was apprehended by officers when he tried to flee the scene.
Police said it was only when they spoke with the woman in the car that the officers on scene learned of the kidnapping. She told police called 911 to report she’d been kidnapped once she regained consciousness in Hall’s car, during the chase.
“Because the events unfolded so rapidly this information had not been provided to the officers prior to the crash,” police said.
The woman’s wallet and keys were later found at the scene of the abduction, according to police. She was taken to a hospital for evaluation.
Police said Hall was arrested and charged with kidnapping and eluding an officer. He is expected to be arraigned Friday in Knox County Court.
