Alleged drunk driver hits police cruiser, injures officer in Newburyport
An alleged drunk driver was arrested Sunday in Newburyport after hitting a police cruiser and injuring the officer inside, police said in a statement.

Jeremiah Garrett-Levine, 28, of Attleboro.
Around 12:45 a.m., police responded to the rotary in the area of Spofford and Merrimack streets for reports of a crash involving a police cruiser. At the scene, an officer observed a black sedan with front-end damage and a police cruiser with damage to the passenger side.
Sgt. William Steeves said that, as he was exiting the rotary onto Merrimack Street, he spotted a black sedan speeding down Mosley Avenue toward the rotary.
The car’s operator, Jeremiah Garrett-Levine, 28, of Attleboro, was allegedly looking at a GPS on his cellphone and failed to yield when entering the roadway, hitting Steeves’ police cruiser on its passenger side, police said.
Steeves was transported to a local hospital, where he was treated and released, according to the statement.
Police said they discovered Garrett-Levine was under the influence of alcohol and arrested him. He was charged with operating under the influence of liquor, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, speeding, and failing to yield at an intersection.
Garrett-Levine is expected to be arraigned in Newburyport District Court on Monday.
