Teen charged after allegedly flipping stolen Land Rover in Roxbury, critically injuring passenger

A teen was arraigned Thursday after she allegedly flipped a stolen Land Rover in Roxbury, critically injuring her teenage passenger, according to the Suffolk District Attorney’s office.

Police responded to the area of Harold and Harrishof streets for call of a stolen Land Rover being discovered by its rightful owner.

According to authorities, the vehicle was traveling toward Martin Luther King Boulevard when it was approached by a second police cruiser.

The cruiser, which had activated its lights and sirens, pulled onto the roadway to block the Land Rover’s path, but the driver, later identified by police as the defendant, a 17-year-old from Dorchester, drove around the cruiser and continued on, authorities said.

As she passed, authorities said officers were able to check the license plate number to confirm the vehicle was, in fact, reported stolen.

While fleeing, the teen accelerated and struck a concrete median on Walnut Street after attempting to take a right turn, according to authorities. The vehicle flipped onto its left side.

One teen male passenger was able to exit the vehicle, but a second juvenile male passenger was transported to Boston Medical Center with critical injuries, authorities said. The victim was expected to survive.

The driver was arraigned in Boston Juvenile Court on charges of negligent operation of a motor vehicle, receiving a stolen motor vehicle, use of a motor vehicle without authority, failure to stop for police, and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.  She was held on $10,000 bail and is scheduled to appear back in court on October 4.
