Police: Escapee caught after smoking inside T station

A man who had recently escaped from a pre-release program was arrested Saturday after transit police caught him smoking inside a T station, police said in a statement.
Randy Thomas, 36, of Quincy, was placed into custody after police say they found him smoking a cigarette at the Mass. Ave. T station. Thomas was smoking near several “No Smoking” signs, according to police.
Thomas has an active warrant for his arrest out of Dedham District Court for escaping from a penal institution, police said.
Police say Thomas was also in possession of a controlled narcotic without a prescription.
