Man arrested in Springfield faces cruelty to child charges

A man was arrested Tuesday in Springfield after allegedly taking his two children by force from their mother’s vehicle in Connecticut, Massachusetts State Police said in a statement.

Kurtis Webb, 28, was charged with two counts of cruelty toward a child, disturbing the peace, and being a fugitive from justice.

Around 12:30 p.m., state police broadcasted a “Be on the Lookout” (BOLO) originating from New Britain, Connecticut, for a 2006 gray Audi A4 with license plate No. 5ASVW0.

Police said Webb was behind the wheel and had allegedly forcibly taken his two children in Connecticut and fled. Webb was believed to be in the Sumner Avenue area of Springfield, according to police.

A trooper observed a vehicle matching the description in the Walgreens parking lot at the intersection of Sumner and Dickinson avenues, police said. He then spotted Webb at the vehicle and took him into custody.

The children were reunited with their mother Tuesday afternoon with the help of child services officials, police said.
