Police believe Maynard bomb threat was a hoax
Police are investigating a bomb threat discovered Monday in Maynard, which they believe to be a hoax, police said in a statement.
Around 6 p.m., police received a call from a resident who found a bag of shotgun shells on the sidewalk in front of her residence. Messages referencing terrorism and a bomb planted on a bus in town were written on the shells, according to police.
Officers searched the surrounding area and all four of Maynard’s school buses and found no danger, police said.
Although police believe the incident is most likely a hoax, they said they will continue to investigate. Even if a hoax is discovered, those responsible could face up to 20 years in prison under the “Terroristic Threats” felony charge, according to police.
On Tuesday, additional units will monitor public schools as a precaution, police said. Anyone with information related to the incident is asked to call 978-897-1011.
