A Holyoke man was charged with indecent assault and battery after allegedly impersonating an Uber driver and assaulting a female University of Massachusetts student, university police said in a statement Tuesday.
On Sunday, police received a report of an indecent assault and battery taking place Saturday morning. Around 3:30 a.m. Saturday, a man allegedly approached the female victim off campus and identified himself as an Uber river, according to police.
The suspect then allegedly offered the victim a free ride from to a campus apartment complex. During the ride, the victim was assaulted by the suspect outside of North Apartments, police said.
The victim demanded the suspect stop his vehicle, a 2014 black Dodge Charger, and she was able to exit, according to police. The investigation indicates the man may have approached others to offer free rides, police said.
Police arrested Samuel Texidor, 18, and charged him with indecent assault and battery. He was arraigned at Belchertown District Court Tuesday and is being held without bail.
