Man found guilty of secretly videotaping women in Arlington cafe bathroom

A New Hampshire man was found guilty Wednesday on charges after he placed a video camera in the women’s bathroom at an Arlington cafe in September 2014, according to the Middlesex District Attorney’s office.
Joseph Hennessey, 55, of Salem, New Hampshire, was found guilty in Middlesex County Superior Court on four counts of photographing or videotaping a person in a state of nudity, authorities said.
Hennessey was first arrested on September 13, 2014, at Kickstand Café. After a suspicious person was reported at the cafe, police found and seized an electronic device in a flower pot in the one-person women’s bathroom. The camera was streaming a video feed to a device Hennessey was using in the restaurant.
“In this case Hennessey intentionally targeted women while they were using the restroom, violating their right to privacy and recording them illegally,” District Attorney Marian Ryan said in a statement. “Because of the vigilance of the employee who saw something out of place, noticed a man acting suspiciously, and then called police we were able to hold this defendant accountable for his actions.”
Hennessey is scheduled to be sentenced on September 26.
