Police: Man with handgun arrested at Porter Square station

A Quincy man was arrested Friday in Cambridge’s Porter Square for allegedly having a firearm with a defaced serial number, MBTA Transit Police said in a statement Tuesday.

Around 1:30 p.m., an officer on patrol at the Porter Square commuter rail station spotted a man sitting on a bench at the far end of the platform, appearing to be rolling a marijuana cigarette, according to police.

As the officer approached, he saw what he believed to be marijuana and Patrick Williams-Denis, 21, allegedly admitted he was preparing a marijuana cigarette.

Police said Williams-Denis also claimed to have more marijuana in his possession and consented to a search. The officer then recovered a loaded 32 caliber handgun, individually wrapped bags of marijuana, and a scale from William-Denis’s backpack, according to the statement.

Williams-Denis was expected to be arraigned in Cambridge District Court on charges of possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number and possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute.
