Driver charged with OUI after hitting cruiser on I-93, injuring trooper
A state trooper was injured on Interstate 93 early Tuesday morning when a driver under the influence struck his cruiser, authorities say.
The incident happened just after 1:30 a.m. on I-93 southbound near the Mass. Ave exit. Lily G. Reid, 21, of Quincy, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and failure to move over for an emergency vehicle, after police say she hit a trooper with her Chevrolet Malibu. She plowed into the rear end of the trooper’s marked Ford Explorer while he was sitting in it, police say.
The trooper suffered injuries that were not considered life threatening and was conscious and alert when he was taken to Tufts Medical Center, police say. He was struck while he was on the scene of a two-car crash. Neither driver in that prior crash was injured.
