Police: Jogger hit by drunk driver in Seekonk

A jogger sustained life-threatening injuries after being struck by an alleged drunk driver on Route 44 late Sunday afternoon, according to Seekonk police.

Police said the jogger, a man in his 50s, was struck by a Lincoln sedan around 5 p.m. The driver then fled the scene.

Witnesses in two separate vehicles followed the fleeing vehicle into East Providence and used their cars to box in the car, forcing the driver to stop her vehicle on Route 44 until police arrived on scene. Police said the female driver, whose identity has not yet been released by police, was allegedly driving drunk.

The woman, 33, of Attleborough, was charged with operating under the influence of alcohol, reckless operation of a vehicle, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, and leaving the scene of a bodily injury accident, according to police.
