Police investigating alleged sexual assault on Greenway

A woman said a man approached her and sexually assaulted her while she was walking on the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway, toward the carousel, in Downtown Boston early Monday morning, Boston police said in a statement.

Officers responded to a call for a report of a sexual assault in the area of State Street and Atlantic Avenue at about 4:11 a.m.

According to the statement, the woman described her assailant as: a white or white Hispanic male, in his 40s or 50s with scruff on his face, and about 5-foot-5 and thin. He was wearing a dark-colored Bruins jersey and baseball hat, she said.

She told police the man fled after the assault.
