Police arrest man allegedly breaking into North End homes by rooftop
A man was arrested early Sunday morning after a series of break-ins or attempted break-ins in the North End, according to Boston police.
Police received a call around 12:53 a.m. that a person was trying to break into a Thacher Street apartment. Responding officers spoke to the tenant, who said he heard what he thought was two men trying to break into his apartment through his skylight. Police said the tenant thought the men had tried to break into two units from the roof before fleeing the scene.
Police said shortly after the initial call, they received another report of an attempted break-in via rooftop from a resident around the corner on North Margin Street. The resident told police that after an unsuccessful attempt to gain entry, the suspect may have jumped onto the roof of the apartment building next to his.
Officers, attempting to pursue the suspect, jumped onto the roof of the building next door and entered the residence from above, according to police. Upon entering the building, police found a fourth victim who said the suspect was inside his apartment. Police were then able to locate and arrest the suspect.
Damian Tejada, 24, of New York, was booked on two counts of breaking and entering a residence at nighttime and two counts of attempted breaking and entering a residence at nighttime, according to police.
