Hyde Park man arrested for murder of 35-year-old

Boston police arrested a 22-year-old man for allegedly killing a man in Dorchester last Saturday, officials said.

Aaron Almeida of Hyde Park was charged with murder and unlawful possession of a firearm in connection with the death of 35-year-old Ailton Goncalves of Dorchester, Boston police said in a statement.

The arrest took place near William T. Morrissey Boulevard and Neponset Avenue Saturday morning, exactly one week after Goncalves was gunned down on Dudley Terrace.

Police were called to the scene at 12:05 Saturday morning and found an injured man — later identified as Goncalves — and woman. Goncalves was pronounced dead at the scene, and the woman was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Boston police are still investigating the case. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the homicide unit at 617-343-4470.
