DA: Suspect tossed heroin from car during chase
When police tried to stop a man while driving in Northampton on Wednesday night, he sped up and tossed 112 grams of heroin from the window of his car, according to authorities.
Police were acting on information that the driver, George Flores, 36, of New York City, may have been transporting a large quantity of heroin to Whately from New York City, according to Northwestern District Attorney David E. Sullivan’s office.
Flores led police on a car chase, while he allegedly threw the heroin out the window. He was eventually stopped and arrested in Whately. The DA’s office said Flores was driving with a suspended license and officers seized two cell phones and more than $2,000 from the car.
The heroin Flores allegedly tossed from his car would fill more than 5,000 bags and has a street value of more than $50,000, the DA’s office said.
“We will not tolerate drug traffickers poisoning our community with this deadly drug,” said Jeremy Bucci, chief trial counsel at the Northwestern District Attorney’s office. “I am grateful for the work of the task force bringing this alleged drug trafficker to face justice.”
Flores will be arraigned in Greenfield District Court today.
