Registered sex offender sentenced after sexually exploiting teen

A registered sex offender was sentenced Monday in Springfield after convincing a teen to travel to New York with him and participate in sexual activity, the U.S. Attorney’s office said in a statement. Ronald S. Brown, 53, of Williamstown, was sentenced to 15 years in prison and 10 years of supervised release, authorities said. Officials said Brown took part in thousands of online communications with a 16-year-old male teen from December 27, 2012, to January 19, 2013, attempting to persuade him to run away from home and engage in sexual activity.Brown sent the teen a one-way plane ticket to Newark International Airport in New Jersey on January 7, 2013, and picked him up at the airport on January 19, 2013, the U.S. Attorney’s office said. He then took the teen to New York to engage in sex and exploited him by taking visual images of the minor participating in lewd conduct, according to the statement. The teen was found in New York after his mother reported him missing and alerted police that he might be meeting with Brown, the U.S. Attorney’s office said. Brown, who registered as a sex offender based on a prior conviction for sexual assault of a 14-year-old, falsely told a federal agent during an interview he thought the teen was 18, according to the statement.Brown pleaded guilty in November 2015 to one count of interstate travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct with a minor and one count of possession of material involving the sexual exploitation of minors, according to the statement.
