Former mob boss Francis ‘Cadillac Frank’ Salemme charged with murdering witness

Federal officials have charged a former Mafia boss with killing a witness more than 20 years ago.
Francis P. “Cadillac Frank” Salemme, 82, was arrested Wednesday and held without bail after his appearance in federal court.
The complaint charges Salemme with killing a witness in Stoughton on May 10, 1993. It does not name who the victim was, but The Boston Globe reports that it is the same date that South Boston nightclub manager Steven A. DiSarro was murdered in a Sharon home. His remains were found in Providence earlier this year.
The complaint says Salemme lives in Atlanta under the name Richard Parker. According to The Boston Globe, prosecutors said Salemme had recently fled the witness protection program and should be held without bail.
Salemme’s attorney agreed not to challenge the bail request.
In 2003, gangster Stephen”The Rifleman” Flemmi told investigators that he walked into Salemme’s Sharon home as DiSarro was being strangled by Salemme’s now-deceased son.
Flemmi later told authorities that the elder Salemme said he disposed of the body in Rhode Island.
Another former mobster, Robert P. DeLuca, was arrested in June and charged in connection with DiSarro’s murder. DeLuca was charged with obstruction of justice and making false statements for allegedly lying to federal investigators about DiSarro’s murder.
