Retired FBI agent Robert Fitzpatrick was sentenced to two years of probation in federal court Friday for lying on the stand at Boston mobster James “Whitey” Bulger’s 2013 trial, according to The Boston Globe.

Fitzpatrick, 76, who was second-in-command of the FBI’s Boston office from 1981 to 1986, pled guilty in May to six counts of obstruction of justice and six counts of perjury for testimony that exaggerated his accomplishments and assisted the defense, the Globe reported.

US District Judge Dennis Saylor IV was urged by both prosecutors and defense to accept the plea agreement due to Fitzpatrick’s recent health issues. He has been diagnosed with kidney disease, cancer, and diabetes.
