Boston man arrested after dashcam captures shooting
have arrested a man who allegedly shot an illegal firearm in Roxbury Saturday evening after a dashboard camera caught the incident on tape.
Devaughn Dardy, 21, of Boston, faces charges of assault by means of a dangerous weapon (gun), unlawful possession of a firearm, and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, according to police.
Police said the shooting took place at 6:22 p.m. Saturday, and that there were no reported injuries.
The video, which was captured using the directions app Waze, was posted to LiveLeak.
The expletive-laden video shows the driver and a passenger cruising along a residential street when several gun shots ring out. The driver brings the car to a stop, drives in reverse, and then speeds down a smaller side street away from the scene.
“Call 911. Oh my God,” the driver says.
The video was turned over to police amid the investigation, police said.
“I want to commend my officers for the fine work that lead to today’s quick arrest,” Boston Police Commissioner William Evans said in a statement. “I also want to thank the vehicle owner for her decision to share this video with our officers. Thanks to her help, we received several calls from concerned community members who helped us identify the suspect. And, as I said earlier in the day, if we had more people come forward like that every day, our job would be a lot easier and our ability to solve crimes that much better.”
