14-year-old arrested for allegedly carrying loaded firearm
A 14-year-old juvenile was arrested Saturday in Roxbury for allegedly carrying a loaded firearm, Boston police said. Around 12:35 a.m., officers patrolling the Humboldt Avenue area saw two males walking with hooded sweatshirts tied tightly around their faces. Police said the males stared at the officers for a long time, looking back at them a number of times. One of the males seemed to be holding an object in his waistband, according to police. Because of the warm weather and humidity, officers believed the males might be hiding weapons in their large hoodies. As officers approached, the male who seemed to be holding his waistband ran away. Police said an officer followed and caught up with him as he fell near 144 Ruthven St. The officer heard a thud sound and observed a movement in the leaves and grass about 5 feet from the suspect. Police said a black loaded semi-automatic Star Firestar .45 caliber firearm that the suspect had allegedly thrown away was later recovered upon further inspection of the area. The 14-year-old, of Hyde Park, was arrested and charged with delinquent to wit, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, and unlawfully carrying a loaded firearm.
