Teen faces charge after using phone during crash that seriously injured woman, police say
A 17-year-old from Pepperell is facing a criminal charge for using his phone while driving and causing a crash that seriously injured a woman earlier this year, according to police.
The teen, whose name has been withheld because of his age, is charged with negligent operation with injury from mobile phone use, police said.
On April 28, the then 16-year-old was driving on Route 113 in Pepperell when his vehicle crossed into the opposite lane and hit an SUV head on, seriously injuring a woman in the vehicle, according to police. She is still recovering from injuries related to the crash.
An initial investigation revealed that the teen was using his phone during the time of the crash, police said. A longer investigation by the Middlesex District Attorney’s office found that the 17-year-old should be charged criminally.
The teen will be arraigned in Middlesex District Court.
