Pursuit of Plymouth carjacking suspect ended with crash into Taunton home, police say
An East Bridgewater man accused of carjacking and ultimately crashing an elderly woman’s car into a Taunton home is facing charges in Plymouth District Court Tuesday.
Plymouth police said Anthony Loto, 26, approached the woman who was seated in her car in the parking lot of a Stop &Shop on Monday afternoon and told her that her husband needed her in the store. When the woman stepped out of her car, Loto allegedly grabbed her car keys, pushed her away, and drove off, police said.
Officers responding to the scene around 1:45 p.m. located the vehicle on Route 3, according to authorities.
Police said the pursuit continued onto Route 44 in Middleborough where officers attempted to use stop sticks to deflate the car’s tires and end the chase but were unsuccessful.
The chase ended when Loto lost control of the car and crashed into a home at the intersection of South Precinct and Seekal streets in Taunton, police said.
Loto was transported to a Plymouth hospital with minor injuries. The victim was not injured, according to police.
Loto has been charged with carjacking, unarmed robbery, assault and battery on a person over the age of 60, failure to stop for police, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, and resisting arrest. Attorney information for Loto was not immediately available.
