Cambridge police officer arrested, put on unpaid leave

A Cambridge police officer was arrested and placed on unpaid administrative leave from his department after he allegedly assaulted an employee at a Revere restaurant earlier this month, according to the Suffolk District Attorney’s office.

Officer Jonathan Vicente, 25, of Revere, was off-duty when he was arrested around 2:10 a.m. on July 10 after an altercation at the restaurant Volare on Broadway, according to the DA’s office. Responding officers said an employee at the restaurant confronted a group of men urinating in the alley behind the establishment and was physically assaulted. The employee was treated for nonlife-threatening injuries, authorities said.

During the immediate investigation, Revere officers said they stopped a vehicle occupied by Vicente and another man near the scene.  Vicente was arrested based on witness statements, marks on Vicente’s hands, and stains consistent with blood on a shirt believed to be his, according to the DA’s office.

Vicente, who has been a Cambridge patrol officer since 2015, was arraigned in Chelsea District Court on July 11 and charged with disorderly conduct, according to the DA’s office. He was released on his own recognizance, and is expected to return to court on August 10. Officials said the investigation into the group assault is still ongoing.

Cambridge police confirmed Vicente is a member of its department and issued a statement on the officer’s arrest Wednesday.

“The Cambridge Police Department is aware of these allegations and takes them seriously,” Police Commissioner Christopher Burke said in a statement. “We will provide any support needed from our partners at the Revere Police Department and the District Attorney’s Office to facilitate their investigation.”
