Worcester man receives fourth drunken driving charge after nearly striking woman
A Worcester man was charged with his fourth drunken driving offense early Sunday morning after hitting an SUV and injuring two people, according to Worcester police.
James Benoit, 47, was driving a Chevrolet Blazer at 1:25 a.m. on Grove Street when he struck the back of a GMC Yukon parked on the side of the road, investigators said. A 62-year-old woman was unloading items from the SUV when it was hit, and flying debris caused injuries to her face.
Benoit’s vehicle eventually came to a stop when it hit a guardrail, police said.
A woman riding in Benoit’s vehicle suffered a serious head and eye injury, while Benoit was slightly injured. All three went to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Benoit was arrested at the hospital and charged with fourth offense operating a vehicle under the influence, operating a motor vehicle negligently as to endanger, operating a vehicle under the influence causing serious bodily injury, among other offenses.
He is expected to be arraigned Monday in Worcester County District Court.
