Two men arrested in connection to shooting outside Burke High School

Two men have been arrested and charged with murder in connection to the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old outside his Dorchester high school earlier this month, according to authorities.

The Suffolk District Attorney’s office said in a statement that Jonathan Aguasvivas, 23, of Roxbury, and Benzy Bain, 24, of Mattapan, were arrested Wednesday and that additional charges against the pair could be forthcoming.

Raekwon Brown was killed in the June 8 shooting that also injured two other teens and a 67-year-old woman near the Jeremiah E. Burke School. Brown was a junior at the school.

In a statement, Boston Police Commissioner William Evans said finding those responsible for the “senseless tragedy” was of highest priority.

“Clearly, those responsible for the shooting cared little about who they hurt, harmed or injured while displaying an absolute disregard for the safety and well-being of every person living or working in that neighborhood,” he said.

Suffolk District Attorney Daniel Conley said in a statement the arrests are just one step forward toward justice for Brown’s family.

“These arrests mark a step toward justice for Raekwan’s family, but it is not the last step,” he said. “We will not rest until those responsible for his homicide have been held to account for it.”

Aguasvivas was arrested in 2015 at the scene of the shooting that injured Boston Police Officer John Moynihan. He was a passenger in the car driven by the suspect Angelo West, who was fatally shot by police, and was arrested on the unrelated outstanding warrants, including assault with a dangerous weapon.

In 2013, according to court records, Bain was sentenced to 3 1/2 years in prison after he was indicted as an armed career criminal. He later pleaded guilty to firearms charges and possession of cocaine with intent to distribute.

Both Aguasvivas and Bain were held without bail following an arraignment in Dorchester Municipal Court and will return to court July 26, according to the DA’s office.

Authorities said camera footage and other digital evidence helped investigators make the arrests.

Anyone with information about the shooting is still urged to contact police at 617-343-4470.
