Man accused of assaulting MBTA officer, shouting racial epithets
A Medford man is accused of assaulting an MBTA Transit Police officer during what officials said was a racially-tinged tirade at the T’s Harvard station.
Xavier Galatis, 23, was confronted by an MBTA employee after he evaded paying fare, according to MBTA Transit Police. Galatis allegedly “became violent and threatened the employee with death,” according to police.
Transit Police officers then approached Galatis, who turned his ire on them, police said. He allegedly refused to leave the station and shouted racial epithets at the MBTA employees, according to police. When police attempted to take him into custody, he allegedly struck an officer in the torso before finaly being subdued, police said.
Galatis is set to be arraigned in Cambridge District Court on charges of assault and battery on a police officer, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest, police said.
No further information about his arraignment was immediately available.
