Kenneth Rackley, 19, was murdered on a busy summer night in a Roxbury park 6 years ago.
“That was a night I wouldn’t wish on anyone,” said Faye Rackley, his grandmother, in the latest “Search for Justice” video released by the Boston Police Department to aid with unsolved homicides.
Rackley was shot in the back at about 10 p.m. in the area of Martin Luther King Boulevard in Roxbury in July 2010. His murderer was never captured.
Detective Josh Cummings said there were up to 200 people in the park that night and police only had one witness. He said there are things police know about the case, but they are looking for that one thread to “tie it all together.” He said solving these cases not only helps the grieving families, but it also takes a murderer off the streets who could potentially harm another person.
“It just makes it safer for everybody,” said Cummings.
In the video, Faye Rackley describes how his brothers and family reacted in the hospital the night they were told Kenneth had been killed.
“Kenny was loved by his family and no one had the right to take his life,” she said.
“For the families impacted by violence, we’re gratified to know that this project gives them a voice, a platform and an opportunity to remind people that the pain of losing a loved one lives with them every day as does an equally intense desire to find the person responsible for the murder of their love done,” said Police Commissioner William B. Evans. “If someone has information, sharing that information could make all the difference in securing justice for the family.”
Anyone with information about Rackley’s death can call 1-800-494-TIPS or text ‘TIP’ to CRIME.
