Man arrested in connection to Belle Isle Marsh assault

A former resident of Hingham has been arrested in connection to the assault of a 67-year-old Lynn man while he was walking at the Belle Isle Marsh reservation on June 1.

State police arrested 51-year-old Michael Bruzzese Thursday and he was arraigned Friday in East Boston, according to the Suffolk District Attorney’s office. Bruzzese, who was temporarily living in Cambridge and is currently on probation for a breaking and entering conviction, has been charged with assault and battery on a person over 60, breaking and entering a vehicle during the daytime, larceny over $250, and unarmed robbery on a person over 60, authorities said.

The DA’s office said Bruzzese’s charges are not connected to the death of 83-year-old Daniel Pepe who suffered fatal injuries while walking on the reservation on May 29. Police said the investigation into Pepe’s death remains ongoing.

Bail was set at $25,000, according to the DA’s office.

Attorney information for Bruzzese was not immediately available.
