Woman sentenced after attacking and robbing disabled woman of lottery winnings

A Worcester woman was found guilty in Superior Court Wednesday of attacking and robbing a woman with cerebral palsy of her lottery winnings in 2014, according to the Worcester District Attorney’s Office.

Wendy LaPorte, 41, was found guilty of armed robbery while masked and assault and battery on an elderly or disabled person. Both LaPorte and a co-defendant, Sayed D. McKenzie, 29, were charged.

On February 26, 2014, LaPorte and McKenzie followed a 48-year-old woman with cerebral palsy and her mother out of a Shell gasoline station on Lincoln Street, according to authorities. The suspects had seen the victim cash a scratch ticket for $400 at the station. Authorities said the assault and robbery occurred in the parking lot of a nearby apartment complex.

LaPorte was sentenced to two-and-a-half to five years on the robbery conviction and two to three years on the assault and battery conviction, to be served concurrently.

Authorities said McKenzie pleaded guilty to the same charges in March and was sentenced to 10 to 12 years in state prison.
