Police: Man breaks into Maine home, proceeds to shower and drink beer
A sweatpants-wearing New Hampshire man is accused of committing a super chill crime spree in which he allegedly broke into two Maine apartments and ate, showered, and drank beer from the fridge, police said.
According to police in Berwick, Maine, a woman arrived at her apartment on Thursday afternoon to find her animals outside her home and horses in a nearby barn roaming free. She encountered an unknown male in her apartment and then called 911, police said.
When Berwick Police arrived, the man led officers on a barefoot chase for several minutes before being caught.
Todd LeGrand, 53, was arrested and charged with several counts of burglary, theft, and violation of his release, Berwick Police said.
LeGrand had forced his way into two separate apartments and spent several hours as he ate, showered, and drank beer, police said. Law enforcement said he also stole money and other items.
He had also been arrested on Monday by Berwick Police for an outstanding warrant, and was released from custody on Wednesday, police said. Berwick Police added that he had taken a taxi from Sanford to North Berwick, but did not pay for the ride.
LeGrand is set to be arraigned in Springvale District Court on Friday. Information on his attorney was not immediately available.
