A Belmont man punched and shattered the window of an MBTA bus in Allston on Sunday, MBTA Police said, sending shards of glass into the driver’s face and torso.

Jason Santos, 36.

The Route 86 MBTA bus was traveling on Western Avenue when Jason Santos, 36, passed by the bus in a Toyota Scion, police said. Santos then drove the car to 230 Western Avenue and blocked the bus from pulling into the bus stop, police said. The vehicle’s position forced the bus to let passengers off while parked in the middle of the road, causing delays.

At that time, Santos reportedly exited his vehicle and approached the driver’s side window of the MBTA bus. He then “violently punched” through the window, breaking the glass, police said. The bus driver was treated by EMS for possible glass shards in his eye, according to police.

Santos told police that the bus operator had cut him off, and said he was going to remind the operator to “use his mirrors” next time, according to MBTA Police.

Santos was taken into custody and charged with malicious destruction of property and assault and battery on a public employee. He is set to be arraigned in Brighton Municipal Court. Information on an attorney for Santos was not immediately available.
