After Sunday afternoon break-in, cops warn thieves: ‘Stay out of Marblehead!’

“Stay out of Marblehead!”

That was the simple message police in the quaint North Shore town left on social media for would-be criminals after an East Boston woman was arrested in Marblehead this weekend.

Officials say the woman, who walked into a Marblehead home on a Sunday afternoon to offer dog walking services, has been arrested for breaking and entering.

The 38-year-old East Boston woman entered the home at 2:30 p.m., according to Marblehead police. When her services were turned down, police say she left the house and walked into the neighborhood. The victim then called the police while her husband and a neighbor followed the woman.

Witnesses told police the suspect entered and exited another home and tried to open the door of a parked car, police say. Neighbors, who followed the woman from a safe distance, gave police a detailed description of the woman. When officers arrived, they questioned the suspect.

“Unfortunately, the multiple explanations she provided for her actions contradicted each other and she was ultimately taken into custody,” police wrote in a statement.

She was arrested and charged with two counts of breaking and entering in the daytime with intent to commit a felony, two counts of trespassing, and attempt to commit a crime. She was held on $1,040 cash bail. The woman, who police did not identify, is scheduled to be arraigned in Lynn District Court on Monday.
