Driver who hit, dragged woman for several miles facing assault, negligence charges

A woman who allegedly struck two people with her vehicle and dragged one for several miles in February was indicted on charges related to the crash Tuesday, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office.

Xiao Ying Zhou, 45, is charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, leaving the scene of a collision causing personal injury, and negligent operation of a motor vehicle, authorities said.

Zhou, of Sandwich, allegedly hit a man and a woman in Chinatown around 2 a.m. on February 1. The 46-year-old woman was struck near the intersection of Kneeland Street and Harrison Avenue and dragged from down I-93 southbound, authorities said. She sustained injuries that proved to be traumatic, but not fatal, according to the DA’s office.

The 56-year-old man suffered from injuries that were serious, but not life-threatening, when he was hit at the scene, authorities said.

Following the crash, Zhou was initially arraigned on two counts of leaving the scene of a collision causing personal injury, according to the DA’s office. Her arraignment on the latest charges could be scheduled as early as Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.

Information about Zhou’s attorney was not immediately available.
