As Provincetown moves on from the cluster of nearly 1,000 COVID-19 cases that began days after the Fourth of July weekend, town manager Alex Morse announced new certifications for businesses on Wednesday, in an effort to keep potential patrons better informed.

Each business can receive one of three certifications from the town’s Board of Health based on their policies around COVID-19 vaccination.

These include:

  • Requiring all staff to be vaccinated;
  • Requiring patrons to prove they are vaccinated for entry;
  • Requiring both staff to be vaccinated and patrons to prove they are vaccinated.

Morse said a list of the businesses who have received one of the certifications will be on the town’s website.

“We are exploring other measures the Town can take in the coming days as we prepare for Carnival week,” he said in the post.

As of Thursday morning, the number of active cases among Provincetown has dropped to 49, a decrease of eight from yesterday, according to Morse. There were 253 cases among residents, and 230 have recovered.

“The number of people recovering each day exceeds the number of new cases being added,” he said in a separate post. “We are optimistic this will continue.”

The Provincetown cluster, which reached 965 people, helped to direct the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s new indoor mask guidance, released on Friday.
