Here’s how many breakthrough cases have occurred in Mass.

Massachusetts health officials are tracking the number of breakthrough COVID-19 cases being reported in the state.
The Bay State has seen 7,737 breakthrough cases as of July 31, according to data released by the state’s Department of Public Health on Tuesday. The total number of breakthrough cases increased by 1,364 from the previous week.
About 4,291,441 people in Massachusetts have been vaccinated, as of July 16, so the latest breakthrough infections represent only 0.18% of the state’s cases.
A small number of those breakthrough cases — 395 — have resulted in hospitalizations, according to the state. The hospitalized breakthrough cases are only about 0.009% of fully vaccinated individuals.

The number of breakthrough cases that have resulted in death has increased to 100, representing only 0.002% of fully vaccinated individuals.
Separate of breakthrough cases, Massachusetts has been seeing an uptick in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations. The state now has nine counties that meet the threshold for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s updated mask guidance, up from five last week.
The guidance recommends that everyone — regardless of their vaccination status — wear face coverings in indoor, public spaces in areas with “substantial” or “high” rates of coronavirus transmission.
